Oh My God. Gorgeous. Almost more like an illuminated Islamic manuscript than a graphic novel, Habibi has a wonderful, meaningful, and difficult romance at its center, but it encompasses so many aspects of creation -- of narrative, of the universe, of language, of art, of life -- that it echoes over all the waters. A leap forward in comic art.
